Steve Brock Named Greater Atlanta Home Builders Association’s Builder of the Year

Jan. 28, 2009 - PRLog -- The Greater Atlanta Home Builders Association (HBA) named Steve Brock Builder of the Year at their annual Installation and Awards banquet on Jan. 15, 2009. The event, which honored various award recipients and announced the installation of the 2009 board of directors, celebrated Brock’s accomplishments as an Atlanta home builder and member of the HBA. Brock founded Brock Built in 1984 and since then has constructed more than 1,000 homes, literally transforming Atlanta’s west side. His goal is not to change existing communities, but rather to recreate and revitalize them into more livable environments that enhance an area’s residents’ quality of life.

Builder of the Year is the most prestigious and esteemed local award for a home builder. Each year the HBA presents this award to a Certified Professional Home Builder member of the HBA who has demonstrated a commitment to professional excellence. This award recognizes a builder for his or her contributions to furthering the goals and mission of the association through volunteer efforts within the association and the housing industry and through community and charitable programs.

“Steve’s vision, passion and dedication have made a huge impact on the Atlanta home building industry,” said David Ellis, Executive Vice President of the Greater Atlanta HBA. “He has gone above and beyond to revitalize the city of Atlanta and he builds exciting neighborhoods, close to the city that showcase beautiful homes with exceptional attention to detail.”

A true outdoorsman, Brock makes a conscious effort to protect the environment when building homes and constructs most homes to comply with EarthCraft House standards. His approach incorporates both environmentally friendly and energy efficient building techniques. This past year, Brock Built partnered with WSB-TV’s Going Green 2008 campaign to construct the Green House in the West Highlands community of Atlanta. Upon completion the home served as a demonstration home for the public that showcased environmentally friendly and sustainable design features attainable for the typical Atlanta family. The Green House recently sold and proceeds from the sale will benefit Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.  

Throughout his career, Brock has served on numerous committees and councils at the HBA, including the Government Affairs Council and the Developers Council. He has served on the HBA’s board of directors since 1997, serves on the Executive Committee as a builder at large and was elected a Life Director of the board in 2007. Brock is also on the boards of both the HBA of Georgia and the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB), and has served as President of the Dekalb Home Builders Association. In addition to his HBA service, Brock has also served as the President of the Dekalb Developers Council, is the Urban Land Institute’s Housing Committee Chair and is a board member of the Agape Center.  

The Builder of the Year award tops Brock's long list of recognitions and accomplishments. In the last two years, the company has received 15 OBIE awards for outstanding building design, urban redevelopment/revitalization and marketing efforts from the Greater Atlanta Home Builder's Assocation. In 2007, readers of The Sunday Paper, a weekly newspaper distributed throughout metro Atlanta, honored the new home builder in two categories: best local developer and best new subdivision for Dupont Commons.
