Follow on Google News | ![]() Why use a Laser to Cut Natural Leather?Laser cutting of natural leather is now widely used in the shoe and garment industry, as well as many other industries.
By: Maureen McHale Leather markings can also be produced with fantastic results thanks to advancements in Laser Photonics’ CO2 laser systems. This application is experiencing a strong development, especially in the clothing, footwear and bag industry. High quality production is now available to better produce designers' creations. Application Details: http://www.laserphotonics.com/ Blue leather with 3-mm thickness was marked and cut by a 10 watt CW CO2 laser with 3.75-inch focal length lens. The speed of 50 mm/sec was used for etching surface with one pass and the speed of 10 mm/sec was set for cutting through the sheet with three passes. Total cycle time for cutting and marking whole part took 6 min 40 sec. For reducing the cycle time, the higher power CO2 laser was recommended to be used in the application.
