Bayfront Arena from MetlSpan

Feb. 25, 2009 - PRLog -- The new Corpus Christi Bayfront Arena utilizes 53,000 sq. ft. of Metl-Span’s CF36A polyurethane foam insulated panels installed in both horizontal and vertical configuration.  The 2” panels are finished in Bright Silver Metallic and provide a striking appearance for the 150,000 sq. ft. multipurpose facility.

The architectural firm on the project was Thompson, Ventulett, Stainback & Associates, Atlanta.  TVS was involved in developing a master plan for the Corpus Christi waterfront area that included the new arena plus expansion of the adjoining convention center and the creation of a pedestrian esplanade.

The design of the 10,000-seat arena included a unique blend of horizontal and vertically installed panels that sloped in and out on the west elevation.

The Engineered Metals Company, Fair Oaks, TX, handled installation of the Metl-Span CF36A panels.  “The west wall required a K-frame type of structure to accommodate the sloped band,” according to Dave Stone.  “Installation was a challenge due to the sloping and the fact that we were 95 feet in the air and working through a Gulf Coast summer.”

The building was designed for hurricane wind loads and required significant structural steel framing which The Engineered Metal Company also provided.

The general contractor on the project was Fulton Construction/Coastcon Corporation, Corpus Christi.
