Follow on Google News | New arrival: Electronic pilot’s logbook by DFSNow flight times can be documented digitally. DFS has released its new “Aviator eLogbook” on CD-ROM, which meets the Joint Aviation Requirements of European civil aviation authorities.
By: Nanda Geelvink The electronic pilot’s logbook is available in German and English. All users – be it student pilots, flight instructors, examiners, commercial or private pilots – can tailor the electronic logbook to their individual needs. Entry fields can be shown or hidden because a VFR pilot does not note the same information as a pilot of scheduled flights, while a student pilot makes different entries to a flight instructor. Even font size and background colours can be changed. Users also have the option to upload a photo of their aircraft. Information about aircraft and aerodromes can be entered conveniently and quickly. Pilots can select the relevant models from an expandable aircraft database containing almost 9,000 aircraft types and their ICAO designators. An aerodrome database with more than 3,000 aerodromes in different countries, including their ICAO location indicators and coordinates, facilitates the entry of departure and arrival aerodromes. If a certain aircraft type or aerodrome is not listed, the user can expand the database accordingly. Another feature is the option to show aerodromes directly in the application via Google Maps. At a glance, pilots can see the distance between the departure aerodrome and the arrival aerodrome. Sunrise and sunset times at the aerodromes can be displayed at the click of a mouse. An automatic function reminds pilots when their licence, type rating or medical fitness certificate needs to be renewed. Moreover, flight hours no longer need to be added up, for example when pilots have to extend their licences. Now it is possible to filter times according to certain criteria, such as period of time, departure and arrival aerodrome or aircraft registration mark. The “Aviator eLogbook” can be used by several users on one computer. Each user creates his own password-protected profile. In this way, flight training centres, for example, can enable student pilots to individually access the system. Even problems with the computer give no reason for concern because all of the data entered can be imported in a new version of the “Aviator eLogbook”. To do this, the user must have previously saved the data on an external storage device. In addition, all information can generally be exported in CSV text file format. As a provider of a conventional logbook, DFS has expanded its product portfolio to include an electronic logbook. The “Aviator eLogbook” can be purchased online at www.dfs-aviationshop.de or from distributors of aeronautical products. The special introductory price is currently 79 EUR. DFS will gladly provide a screenshot of the application on request. # # # DFS Deutsche Flugsicherung GmbH is a State-owned company under private law and ensures the safe and punctual handling of flights.
