March 5, 2009 - PRLog -- Ramonville Saint-Agne, FRANCE and Ottawa, CANADA – 05 March, 2009 – Collecte Localisation Satellites (“CLS”), a provider of satellite-based environmental data collection, and location and ocean observation services, today announces its intention to support the SkyWave DMR-800LRIT and SkyWave IsatM2M system for its Long Range Identification and Tracking (LRIT) solution.

CLS was recently appointed by the European Union Member States to develop the EU LRIT Data Centre (DC) and provide Application Service Provider (ASP) and Communications Service Provider (CSP) services. Under this agreement, over 10,000 EU Member State vessels will share an LRIT information repository provided by CLS.

“As one of the world’s major ASP, it is important for CLS to work with partners who offer compliant and reliable LRIT solutions. CLS is pleased to offer and endorse the SkyWave LRIT solution for Flag Administrations that trust CLS with their LRIT compliance needs” says Gaëtan Fabritius, LRIT Sales Manager of CLS. “We have full confidence that the SkyWave’s LRIT offering is a good choice for ship owners who require a low-cost solution.”

CLS has also been appointed by other administrations to provide their dedicated LRIT Data Centers with Testing ASP services.  Testing ASPs are responsible for providing certification information to ship owners and operators, and Flag Administrations, as well as test ships for LRIT compliance. CLS is now an authorized Testing ASP for more than 40 Flag administrations.

LRIT regulations, established by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) for the purpose of improving maritime security, came into force on January 1, 2009. Vessels found to be non-compliant may be denied entry into territorial waters or ports and face significant fines.

The DMR-800LRIT terminal is available through SkyWave’s global network of Solution Provider partners. For more information, please contact SkyWave at +1 613-836-4844 or visit www.SkyWave.com/lrit.php.
