March 9, 2009 - PRLog -- Briarcliffe College President Dr. George Santiago, Jr. has named Northport resident Brian Schorr as Chair of the Department of Liberal Arts and Sciences at Briarcliffe College.  The Department oversees a blend of courses in the arts, the biological and physical sciences, the social sciences, and the humanities.
“Brian Schorr has been an asset at Briarcliffe College for over six years, bringing a multi-disciplinary background of study and experience to designing curriculum and engaging with both faculty and students,” said Santiago, Jr.  “I am pleased to recognize his many contributions with this appointment.”
Brian Schorr joined Briarcliffe College as an adjunct professor in 2002. A 1996 graduate in political science from California State University, Northridge, and of Touro Law School in 2000, Brian brings a depth of understanding to his new role.
“I am in the envious position of heading up Briarliffe College’s Liberal Arts and Sciences Department where a dedicated faculty and staff cooperate in designing a study program tailored to each student,” said Schorr.  “This hands-on approach prepares our students for success in their studies, in their careers and in the world.”
At Briarcliffe College, where education is focused on professional development, students are encouraged to complete required courses toward their degree and then work with a professor to design an independent study program in which they can blend their many interests. A student might propose a reading list and schedule of assignments, to be approved by the instructor. This opportunity to do self-directed research provides exactly
the kind of enthusiastic learning that most liberal arts and sciences majors relish.
Briarcliffe College offers Associate Degrees in Accounting, Criminal Justice, Graphic Design and Networking and Computer Technolgoy.   Bachelor Degrees are offered in Applied Science, Information Technology, Management, and Marketing.  Students may take courses online or at three campus locations:  Queens, Bethpage, and Patchogue, NY.
The Department of Liberal Arts and Sciences includes core curriculum courses, including English, Mathematics, Critical Thinking, Humanities, Natural Sciences, and Social Sciences.
