Saddle-up for Spring at Canterbury Stables

Canterbury Stables and the Central New York riding community prepares for the summer horse show season.

May 20, 2009 - PRLog -- Every four years Central New York unites and proudly celebrates its Olympic reputation for being an attractive home for horses: on some level, nearly every resident of our scenic area of the country is riding along-side show jumping superstar Beezie Madden during her quest for more gold.

Between now and the 2012 Games in London, or the 2010 World Equestrian Games in Lexington, when hopefully we are all once again cheering on Beezie; many of us may likely take a Sunday drive around Cazenovia lake, Nelson, Fenner, Pompey, or any number of the surrounding communities to enjoy the sights and sounds of horses and ponies playing in the fields.

This time of year especially, it is easy to imagine that for every horse or pony rolling in the splendor that is spring, there is a rider, carriage driver, and/or horse-owner who has been anxiously awaiting the day the snow retreats, the mud dries, the trails open, and outdoor horse shows resume.

One such equestrian preparing her clients for the summer show season is Kimberley Asher of Canterbury Stables.  While Beezie is honing her skills at the Winter Equestrian Festival during the winter months, Kimberley and the riders she trains are practicing, practicing, practicing.  Though she is not a house-hold name like her close neighbor Beezie, her efforts to broaden the base of support for English riding have been outstanding.

Eight years ago, out of a love for horses, and a desire to foster the interest and participation of those families who share her affinity for them; the Asher family opened Canterbury’s doors for business.

Since then, Canterbury Stables has continued to develop a strong lesson program for riders of all ages and levels in a modern and spotless facility that has to be seen to be believed - and it’s just two miles from Main Street in Cazenovia.  Visitors are encouraged, and if you do get a chance to stop by, you will meet an outstanding group of lesson horses and ponies and an extremely friendly and professional staff.

Whether you are a serious competitor, an adult looking for an enjoyable and effective form of exercise to shed those extra winter pounds, or you are looking for a fun summer camp experience for your child or grandchild - there is something for everyone at Canterbury Stables.

Who knows, thanks to the team that Canterbury Stables employs, one day, we may even see another future Olympic rider who began their trek from ponies to podiums right here in Central New York.
