By: Best On Key West The Goombay committee was formed to recognize the commonalities Key West shares with the neighboring Bahamas. This includes not only physical descendents, but also the island's unique welcoming atmosphere and tropical, laid-back attitude. From noon to midnight on June 27, locals and visitors alike can enjoy the many activities surrounding this fun, high-energy street festival. In the 29 years since the festival's inception, it has grown to encompass many educational and cultural experiences in addition to traditional Bahamian entertainment. "Key West, Florida offers such a unique blend of activities and culture. The Goombay Summer Fest is a great way for people to learn and enjoy the island's wonderful Bahamian heritage in a fun and inviting atmosphere. With live music, tasty treats and educational information, this festival offers a little something for everyone in the family to enjoy," says Chris Gardner of Best On Key West (http://www.bestonkeywest.com). The Goombay Summer Fest will be held in front of the Coral City Elks Lodge, which is located in Key West's historical Bahama Village area on 1107 Whitehead Street. Admission to the festival is free. Adults and children attending this exciting event will have the opportunity to sample mouthwatering Bahamian traditional treats at food booths set up throughout the street fair, as well as browse eclectic and artistic offerings from local vendors. Additional planned activities include new open-mike opportunities for local musicians, including a special Children's Hour where kids are able to strut their musical abilities. Entertainment from regional and local church choirs, soloists, and bands, including the popular Key West Island Junkanoos, is also scheduled. "When people think of Key West they often think of snorkeling, beaches or maybe even a favorite Key West bed and breakfast. However, the beautiful island of Key West offers so much more than these traditional attractions. Visitors and locals enjoy the Goombay Summer Fest every year because its exciting, energetic celebration of heritage is simply contagious. Attendees can't help but feel as if they've stepped off the Keys and into the Bahamas as they enter this special street celebration," # # # About Best On Key West: Best On Key West (http://www.bestonkeywest.com) End
