Follow on Google News | Howler Technologies introduces high-performance, low-price G.729 codec for Asterisk & FreeswitchLondon, June 29th , 2009 Howler today announced it has launched the first in a series of ‘Howlets’ - products to add performant transcoding open-source telecoms platforms.
By: Howler Technologies The ability to transcode calls between G.711 and G.729 creates more opportunities for revenue, as VoIP providers can take on traffic from sources they were previously unable to. Many business-class IP telephones and VoIP gateways now require support for G.729. The G.729 Howlet gives Asterisk and Freeswitch users the ability to transcode more than 500 concurrent calls on a single server – this equates to a 50% increase over alternative solutions currently available in the market. Howler’s ‘floating license’ model, which allows licenced channels to float across multiple servers, means customers can offer transcoding functionality across their entire network. “Our Howlets are designed to give open source telecoms users functionality that to date has been either unavailable to them or very expensive to implement”, stated Peter Briffett, Commercial Director at Howler. “We will be launching a range of cost-effective products in Q2 2008, purely focused on delivering huge price-performance advantages”. The G.729 Howlet is available immediately from the Howler web store at www.howlertechnologies.com/ About Howler Howler Technology Limited provides cost-effective, high-performance solutions to the telecoms industry.
