SunMaxx-M2 Flat Plate Solar Collector Gets OG-100 Certification

June 30, 2009 - PRLog -- The brand new SunMaxx-M2 flat plate solar collector, just released by Silicon Solar Inc 2 weeks ago, has already been granted SRCC OG-100 Certification. This incredible new development will allow owners of the SunMaxx-M2 flat plate solar collector to use Federal & State solar incentives to offset a portion of the cost of their new flat plate solar collector hot water heating system.

OG-100 certification is granted to a flat plate solar collector by the SRCC (Solar Rating & Certification Corporation) and generally used by the federal and state authorities in determining whether a flat plate solar collector is applicable for solar energy incentives, rebates and/or tax credits.

Currently, the federal and state solar incentives can pay for 50% of the total cost of a solar hot water heating system, including the cost of the flat plate solar collector, and other system components, and installation. The current federal solar incentive for residential solar hot water systems is 30%, with no cap, which is the same as the federal solar incentive for commercial solar hot water systems.

State solar incentives are a little trickier, as they typically vary from state to state in the type of incentive offered, how that incentive is applied, and the amount of the incentive.  However, most states offer a rebate or tax credit, similar to the federal income tax credit, which is often someone in the neighborhood of 15-25%.  Additionally, many states offer sales tax and property tax exemptions for flat plate solar collector kits and solar hot water systems.

However, for a flat plate solar collector, and a solar hot water system based around a flat plate solar collector to receive the majority of the state and federal solar incentives out there, the flat plate solar collector must be SRCC OG-100 certified.
