More Bang For Your Buck

CrossFit Norwest draws a comparison to globo gyms (traditional franchise gyms) and CrossFit. Why is CrossFit becoming more and more and popular and this article demonstrates some key differences as to why this sport is growing

July 7, 2009 - PRLog -- Getting More Bang For your Buck!!!

Have you heard the saying you get what you pay for? Often this is a reflection on quality. Quality of the product, the service or the goods. Globo gyms often miss the big picture. Well they do not miss their big picture which is growth- and not of your fitness. They want to see growth in their member numbers, growth in their hip pockets. They want to sign you up for 2 year contracts, charge you a membership fee, an admin fee then on top of that you will pay for your personal trainer.

Often you will be given a number of free personal training sessions with a trainer (who has just finished their Cert 3 & 4 in fitness by correspondence) who will draw you in to maybe a paid personal training session once to three times a week at an additional charge on top of your gym membership. That is if you even go to the gym after the membership consultant has taken your credit card details and you become prisoner to the big bucks. They only care about their commission for the sale, their numbers, their wage not you!!!!

Lets look at one of the Globo Gyms (popular franchise or chain gyms). You will walk in and want to start a memebership. They will either make an appointment for you or you will be booked in with a membership consultant right way. This membership will be attractive. The managers organise either an attractive female to sign the male members if they are looking for toning and sculpting or the female members who are a little overweight and looking to lose a few kilos. You may get a male membership consultant if you are bloke looking to bulk up or a female that doesn't really have to lose any weight but may be the type of lady potentially swayed by the look of an attractive male.!!!

It is true they do pick the best consultant for the client in the hope of snaring a sale for the gym. These consultants on average, I am not saying all but on average could not give two hoots about you or your goals as long as you sign the paper! If they do not meet their targets they will be given the flick-unemployed. I have never seen a turn over in any industry ever, anywhere like I have membership consultants at these globo gyms.

Now you have been sucked in signed up for 2 years paying anywhere from $50-$60 a fortnight...........for what? To watch guys in their singlets and jeans grunt and grown as they perform 5 to 6 sets of dumbell curls with their face 3 inches from the mirror, to go to the gym and be surrounded by all this fancy equipment and not have a clue how to use it properly that is if you are lucky enough to find a machine that is even free!!!! Are you kidding me! Why would you stand for this...........

You lock your stuff up in the change room- it gets stolen, you do a class where there is very little thought into individuals needs and even less thought on monitoring or measuring your performance.......... These classes are choreographed!!!!!! How can they cater for individual needs? Right now you decided to get personal training so you can know how to use the machines because you have missed out on a place in the class for the last 3 weeks because it has been full and you are sick of sitting on the exercise bike because you have no idea how to use the rower properly or the eliptical machine. You get Joe Average trainer who finished his course last week and wants to train you on the latest state of the art hammer strength lat machine because it uses levers independant to each other- it has to be functional... Right....... thats what he was told at his course. Anyway you pay Joe Average $80 a session, once a week indefinatley........ now your membership costs $240 a month in personal training and anywhere from $100 to $120 a month in gym fees.

What do you get? You get a less than ordinary trainer, you get no customer service, you can't park your car because the car park is to full, you get piss everywhere but in the toliet and the thing you want most........ results have never been farther from achieving. Why? Because they treat you like a sheep in a flock!!!

You finally realise this $6000-7000 later and a few years down the track. You weigh maybe a little less, your still fat and weak so you want to stop going and give CrossFit a go. I hear there is a new one, CrossFit Norwest. I'll go in and cancel my gym membership............... Wrong, no you won't. You will have to make an appointment to cancel and they are not so keen to squeeze you in like they did 3 years ago (if you lasted that long- I can tell you there would be 30 membership consultants been through the doors in that time) You will have to wait 4-6 weeks for your appointment- that is if the consultant even turns up on time. I know numerous cases where people have made an appointment and the consultant not shown and re scheduled for 2 weeks later, guess what another no show.

So now 2 months have passed and you still want to cancel. The membership consultant does their best to keep you strung along, lower gym fees, more personal training. O.k you have had enough you want out. Well now you have to pay for another month because in your contract you have to give 4 weeks notice........... What about the 8 weeks since you wanted to make that appointment and they didn't show? Tough shit. 4 weeks fom now............. then pay an exit fee or cancelation fee. ARE YOU SERIOUS. What if you want to quite before your contract is up................ well you have to pay the minimum cost for the 2 years anyway and an exit fee!!!!

Finally you walk into Crossfit Norwest, you are greeted with an introduction from not one person but every person in the gym............... not because they do not want to do 30 burpees as a punishment for being a rude arse but because they are all great people. In an environment like this you are garenteed results. You may have some introductory personal training that yes you may pay for but if you have not got too fat and lazy across the road at globo gym  you are pretty much right to start the classes!!! You'll be eased in and shown modified exercises for your level until you feel like you want to mix it with the fire breathers (hard core athletes).

Sure it is more expensive than your basic flat gym membship but then again at your standard gym nobody is watching your every move, counting your reps, recording your scores, timing your sessions. Nobody is making sure you are actually getting what you set out to achieve................. RESULTS. Here we do! Everything you do will be scored, timed or weighted. Everything recorded, measured. Everyone is an athlete. Everything tabulated so you can go back 6 months down the track and see how you have improved. This is evidence based fitness!!! You can cancel or quit at any time.......... we don't like quiters! there is no such word as can't at CrossFit Norwest.
