Salvaged CB Radios Make A Comeback

July 9, 2009 - PRLog -- The hobby of amateur and licensed free two way communications has incurred many changes over the years.  GMRS and FRS mini handheld radios for example, are an option available today, that is a compromise between toy walkie talkies and more expensive CB radios from years prior.  They are offered at incredibly small sizes, yet often cover a mile or more of range, which is impressive, however true Citizen Band radios may cover 5+ miles.


In regards to CB Radios newer versions aren't always the best or most desired.   Currently, mobile CB Radios seem to be all that exists, however the need for a good sounding and full sized puncy base station have not subsided.  Currently, the older models such as the Cobra 2000 gtl and the GE Superbase sell or higher prices than what they cost brand new, more than 20 years ago!

Choosing a used model may come at a cost, however.  Some may require maintenance or repair.  The tube types for example, may be harder to find new parts for (although parts are still often sold at surplus stores).  


CB Radios Sale also reports that the new models of Base Stations simply aren't available today, yet today the need is so great for them, that CBers are often purchasing Export cb radios and Ham Radios in their absence and illegally modifying them to cover channels 1-40 of the US citizens band.
