Follow on Google News | Premier IT Channel Event in North America Features Best Practices for Green IT BusinessA powerful lineup of industry experts address recycling, data wiping, electronic waste, state regulations, and best practices for the IT community at the CompTIA Breakaway 2009 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
By: John Mehrmann The digital conversion and advancement of LCD product escalated the rise of scrap televisions and monitors. Lead and harmful materials from discarded product introduces hazardous substances into local water supplies. To address these issues, nineteen US States have passed legislation regarding recycling of electronic waste. Much legislation places responsibility on manufacturers to prepare plans for collection and recycling. Legislation and reporting vary significantly by city and state, making it difficult to adhere to rapidly changing requirements. Identifying best practices is a means to mitigate risk and protect profitability on products already pressured by price erosion. Proposed changes in the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) and Restrictions of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) define Economic Operators as distributors, resellers, and service providers. Proactive channel partners are discovering methods to turn requirements into revenue and strategic competitive leverage. At CompTIA Breakaway, the premier event for the IT Channel in North America, manufacturers and channel partners will be enriched by a Green IT Workshop featuring an array of industry experts.
