In August of 2007, Meghan was diagnosed with Edwin’s sarcoma, which is a tumor that grows in the bone and soft tissues. Soon after her diagnosis, Meghan began undergoing extremely aggressive chemotherapy treatments which left her drained and in severe pain. Since then, Meghan has been in and out of the hospital frequently and must be monitored carefully by her doctors. While at the hospital, a social worker informed Meghan’s parents that children’s charity, Kids Wish Network might be able to give their young lady something to make her smile again. After a few conversations over the phone and some paperwork, Meghan was talking to Wish Coordinator, Vanessa, telling her about wanting to enjoy her very own shopping spree. With the help of a Wish Funding Specialist, also named Megan, and some very special sponsors, Vanessa made sure that the South Park Mall would host a day full of shopping pleasures just for the special teen. When a limousine rolled up to her front door to take both her and her mom to the South Park Mall for her day of shopping, Meghan knew her wish was being granted. “It was awesome,” she said. “I got some roller blades I had been wanting and some iTunes gift cards,” said Meghan. She picked out everything she wanted and more. A nice surprise came in the discovery that she could use the gift cards she had received at stores outside of the mall as well! This revelation meant that she could have an even wider variety of items to choose from with her remaining money! “I can’t wait to buy a bunch of Converse [shoes],” said Meghan. “It’s like a never ending shopping spree.” With a full day of shopping under her belt and even more shopping ahead of her, Meghan’s wish has definitely come true, bringing more than a few smiles back into her life. Kids Wish Network would like to thank the following for helping to make Meghan’s wish extra special: Wal-Mart, the Grace Springs Community Church, the South Park Mall, Shawn Glasgow and Peak Limousine.
