Makeup Artist Training Available To The General Public

Aug. 14, 2009 - PRLog -- Finding comprehensive, hands-on fashion/beauty makeup artist training is like finding a needle in a haystack.  The lack of this service causes great frustration for the individual who wants to strengthen their makeup skills and expertise.  

Chris Scott, the Makeup Gourmet, has been successfully offering seminars to fill this void in the Bay Area.  Now with a variety of training options, any aspiring makeup artist can get the skills they need to market themselves as a fashion/beauty makeup artist.

Although hair and skin training in beauty schools is comprehensive, makeup is perfunctory.  Many esthetician and cosmetology students, who also want to have “makeup artist” in their resume, must look outside their beauty schools for adequate training.  They want to learn fashion/beauty makeup for special occasion and photography makeup.

The problem is most makeup programs outside of beauty schools focus on the industry professional for film, TV and other media. These programs are very expensive, too extensive, and are offered primarily in Los Angeles and New York. Until now, there has been no consistent local training that focuses solely on the needs of the fashion/beauty makeup artist.

Chris Scott, creator and host of TV’s makeup Gourmet, where each episode he “cooks-a-look”, has spent the last year reaching out to beauty schools to fill this void. He then created and currently teaches Fashion Makeup: Artistry & Business at the Academy Of Art University in San Francisco. Since then, he has been offering monthly seminars to aspiring fashion/beauty makeup artists thirsty for this focused training.

A self-employed makeup artist himself, Mr. Scott’s instruction also focuses heavily on marketing, client relation and business skills with his students. “It does no one any good if you are a great makeup artist and no one knows about you”, Scott Says. He continues, ”With social media and multiple device platforms to reach your audience, marketing has become ridiculously easy”.

Starting in September, Mr. Scott will be in residence at the historic Flood Building at 5th and Market Street in San Francisco. Conveniently located by the Powell Street BART/MUNI station and cable car turnaround, aspiring makeup artists from the Greater Bay Area can easily make their way for these powerful, 8-hour makeup artist intensive seminars. Mr. Scott also offers private and small group fashion/beauty makeup artist training classes for those seeking more specialized attention.
