Resurrection Pictures: Bio of Founder, William "Bill" Harrity, M.D.

Meet Dr. Bill Harrity, the doctor dedicated to saving lives through medicine and saving souls through film.

Aug. 20, 2009 - PRLog -- Resurrection Pictures was launched out of frustration by Dr. William “Bill” Harrity, a practicing anesthesiologist from Pasadena, Calif.

“Resurrection Pictures grew out of my desire to enjoy an evening of Christian-themed entertainment with my own family at a local movie theater,” said Harrity.

It was the lack of wholesome content—and the abundance of offensive material—that led the filmmaker and physician to launch the world’s first 501(c)(3) non-profit, tax-exempt Christian movie ministry of its kind.

Harrity has been involved in all aspects of the entertainment industry for more than 20 years—from credits as a writer, producer, actor, editor and post-production supervisor to international film distribution, domestic home video sales and domestic theatrical distribution.

Resurrection Pictures is Harrity’s second tour through Hollywood. He began his entertainment career by studying at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, UCLA and the American Film Institute.  He is a former member of SAG, AFTRA and the Independent Feature Project of filmmakers.

In 1994, he founded T.H.F. Pictures Corporation, a film production and distribution
company that specialized in independent films.  Harrity owned and ran the company until 2006. During this time, Harrity and THF regularly attended the three major international film markets Mifed in Milan, Cannes in Cannes and the A.F.M. in Santa Monica, Calif.

Harrity, Resurrection Pictures’ founding board member, and all members of the board of directors are volunteers who give of their time and resources to achieve the ministry’s mission and vision without any compensation from the ministry. “ It was important to me that donors to the ministry understand what our motive is” says Harrity.

Currently, Resurrection Pictures is partnering with Five and Two Pictures in the September 2009 release of The Secrets of Jonathan Sperry— a heartwarming coming-of-age story about three 12-year-old boys who are shown how to apply Scripture to daily struggles.

“When we initially screened this movie, we were very moved! The Secrets of Jonathan Sperry will be a memorable and inspiring film for ages 6 to 80 with an excellent message for the Lord,” said Harrity. Dr. Harrity grew up in the Detroit area and completed his residency training at Harbor/UCLA Medical Center in Torrance, California.  He currently lives in Pasadena, Calif. with his wife Nicole and their three children and practices medicine at Huntington Memorial Hospital in Pasadena.

Resurrection Pictures was founded in 2006 as the first—and possibly the only—501(c)(3) non-profit, tax-exempt ministry with a mission to produce and distribute Christian-themed entertainment for movie theaters worldwide.  This Christian film ministry is shaping the future of the faith-based film industry by investing in the work of others who share a vision to create high-quality, culturally relevant entertainment options that share the Gospel message.  In September 2009, Resurrection Pictures is partnering in the release of “The Secrets of Jonathan Sperry”—a heartwarming coming-of-age story about three 12-year-old boys who are shown how to apply Scripture to daily struggles—and is a 2009 Silver Sponsor of the 168 Hour Film Project & Festival.  “Creation,” Resurrection Pictures’ first original film project, is a biopic that dramatizes the life of Kent “Dr. Dino” Hovind, tracing his rise to prominence as one of America’s best known creation evangelists, and his eventual fall from grace due to income tax evasion. The film will be written by Kevin Miller, writer of “Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed.” It is scheduled for production in 2010.
