Aug. 22, 2009 - PRLog -- Spartan Internet marketing consultants announce shift in focus around Yahoo and Microsoft merger. Internet and media giants, Yahoo and Microsoft, announced a partnership to take on Internet search and advertising leader Google. The shift in market share alters how independent Internet marketing consulting firms approach search engine optimization and advertising tactics.

The 10-year deal announced July 29, 2009, effectively triples the market share of Microsoft’s search engine, Bing, to 28 percent. While this is still considerably less than Google’s 65 percent, it will force Internet marketing consultants to develop new strategies to accommodate to the change.

“This merger will alter the Internet landscape substantially,” said Ryan Vartoogian, CEO of Spartan Internet Consulting, a Lansing (Mich.)-based Internet marketing consulting firm. “Could this be the beginning of the ‘Bing Era’? Whether or not it is, companies will need to make the changes necessary in both pay-per-click (PPC) and SEO campaigns to ensure their clients reap the benefits both providers have to offer.”

Currently, Google AdWords, which at $21 billion is the company’s main source of revenue, is the industry leader for PPC and site-targeted advertising for both text and banner ads, according to Google Investor Relations in 2008. PPC campaigns by Google have traditionally been the one-stop source for Internet marketing consultants and advertisers alike, but with the blossoming competition provided by Bing, agencies will have another option when deciding where, how, and at what cost they wish to drive users to their clients’ websites.  http://www.spartaninternet.com/marketing_consultant.asp

“In the past, many companies have been restricted to running Google AdWords campaigns because of their dominance in the market,” said Ryan McPhee, SEO and PPC analyst for Spartan Internet. “Now that Bing will be offering an effective alternative, every PPC analyst will be challenged to think twice before launching a new campaign.”

In the past, companies have attempted to dissect Google’s complicated algorithm, which creates page rankings for websites based on credentials such as keyword density, site structure, and back linking. Now that Bing holds nearly a third of the market share SEO specialists and Internet Marketing consultants alike will have to shift their optimization tactics to better utalize what the Yahoo/Microsoft merger has to offer.
