Wii Modchips Acekard 2i DS Review

Aug. 24, 2009 - PRLog -- I just brought an Acekard 2 from Modchip Central and I got to say I'm very impressed.

     I found the boot up to get to the main menu a lot faster then the other flash cards. It took me only two seconds to boot up and get to the main screen. I love that it has a built in calendar and clock so I don't have to go to the main dashboard to find out. It also lets you cut, and paste which no other card I've seen currently has this feature. This is great because I can move things around within the device without hooking it to the computer.

    The whole menu can be touch screen operated just like the iPhone which I find pretty damn neat. Unlike other cards such as the R4 which limits you to 2 GB with a microsd card you have no size limit on the Acekard card. This is awesome! I can also set the brightness for each game and have it saved. This is very useful as some games need more brightness then others and it pain to have to change it each time I want to play a new game I like that it will jump to the folder which the last game was ran on and that every file and folder has a icon in front of the name. Its game support is pretty much 100% unlike other cards like the R4 which have not been updated recently. Even the games that struggle on other cards such as the Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles works fine for me.

    One of the most impressive parts is the skins, you can move around, recolor, change text strings in the skin itself. This is nothing like any other flashcard I've seen on the market. The game cheat option I found the cheat code option very useful for me as there was a lot of games I couldn't beat and the codes that I got of the Internet for the game itself were limited, this way I could put on codes that I wouldn't normally have access to and finally beat some of the toughest games that I struggled with. It great that the code database supports action replay so it very easy to find cheats. With the proper plug-ins you can even go so far as to get codes from a database online and enter them in without copying it of your computer. I also found a plug-in to watch an AVI movie which is very useful as most media players for other flashcard use less will know formats with poorer compression and not as good quality. I've always been anal about space so I trim my Roms with a program I found online. What trimming your Roms does is takes out unused things from the game such as dummy files and filler data. Companies normally produce chips in certain sizes; the roms almost never filled 100% with the Acekard 2 it has trimming build in. This is great as it saves me a lot of time and effort.

The only thing it lacking is in game saving but apart from that it's one of if not the best card on the market. They are currently working on an open-source firmware for it and I can't wait to find out what it does. In conclusion, apart from the in game saves the Acekard 2 is the best card to buy on the market.
