Aug. 27, 2009 - PRLog -- DENVER, Colo.  Leading sock manufacturer Fox River and the HERA Women’s Cancer Foundation, a non-profit organization that raises funds for ovarian cancer research and awareness, will launch a month-long “Sock Ovarian Cancer” promotion on September 1, 2009 to kick off Ovarian Cancer Awareness month.  With this promotion, HERA and Fox River hope to raise awareness of ovarian cancer symptoms and ultimately increase early diagnosis. Johns Hopkins University reports that one in 57 women will be diagnosed with ovarian cancer this year. With early detection, more than 90 percent survive, yet currently only 24 percent of ovarian cancer is caught while still in the early stages.

To “sock” ovarian cancer, Fox River is offering a 20 percent discount on the purchase of each pair of HERA socks at www.foxsox.com. The company will donate $1 for each pair sold to the HERA Foundation’s awareness initiatives and its OSB1 scientific grant program, which funds, among other projects, early-detection research. Each HERA sock includes a special HERA bracelet and hangtag containing ovarian cancer symptoms.  Fox River is encouraging customers to keep one pair of HERA socks and give two pairs to friends, as a way to educate more women on the signs and symptoms of ovarian cancer.

“Fox River is committed to supporting our consumers’ active outdoor lifestyle, which for us means making a difference in their lives on a very personal level. Through our partnership with HERA, we can help to ensure that our female customers enjoy a long life in the outdoors by supporting science and generating the awareness of ovarian cancer that’s necessary in order to see an increase in early diagnosis,” explains Joel Anderson, Fox River’s vice president of sales and marketing.  “We’re a company that supports the health and well-being of our customers; we look forward to being a part of finding a solution for this disease.”

“Increasing awareness and funding scientific research grants are both key in combating this deadly disease.  Our collaboration with Fox River helps accomplish these goals,” says Danni Lederman, the HERA Foundation’s executive director.
