Follow on Google News | All natural sushi company promotes benefits of brown rice during National Rice MonthWhole Foods Market sushi vendor, Genji Inc., is encouraging customers to switch to heart-healthy brown rice sushi during September, National Rice Month.
By: Ken Blakeman, Genji, Inc. When rice is harvested, it is brown, as it still has its husk and the nutrient-rich layers which surround the core of the grain. Brown rice is husked, but it is not milled or polished, leaving these layers relatively untouched. In order to make white rice, the nutritious aleuronic layer is removed and polished away, leaving a white rice grain which many prefer, although it has been stripped of many of its nutritional properties. Genji wants more of its customers to know that choosing brown rice over white may benefit their health. Compared to white rice, brown rice has 100% more dietary fiber, 67% more vitamin B3, 60% more iron, and 100% more essential fatty acids. Genji is offering a 20% discount on 3 of its most popular 12 piece brown rice “Value Items,” to encourage customers to “go brown.” Most brown rice items retail for 50 cents more than the white rice version. Genji hopes the additional discount will help make trying brown rice even more appealing. During the promotion, all brown rice items will carry a “go with the grain” sticker with a heart on it, and in-store signage will include banners with an FDA-approved statement supporting the campaign, which reads: “Diets rich in whole grain foods, such as brown rice and other plant foods, and low in total fat, saturated fat and cholesterol may help reduce the risk of heart disease and certain cancers.” Background on Genji, Inc.: Established in 1997, Genji, Inc. is dedicated to providing “quality of life” by serving the finest quality sushi and Japanese fusion cuisine in a grab-and-go style.
