Financial Soultions: “Microhoo” deal under strong scrutiny.

U.S antitrust regulators are requesting more documents and information about the Yahoo, Microsoft deal.

Sept. 13, 2009 - PRLog -- Microsoft Corp search engine deal with Yahoo is getting more attention as both companies had expected.

Financial Soultions was informed that the two companies announced that the Justice Department's antitrust division had made a more recent request for documents, indicating a decision to perform a deeper examination that could take months.

Jack Evans of Microsoft said recently, "We received this additional request as we expected from the government.", while a Yahoo’s spokesman was heard to say "We're obviously cooperating fully.", by Financial Soultions sources.

Both companies said they were optimistic that the deal, struck earlier this year as a way to challenge search giant Google, would be concluded by early 2010.

No. 1 search engine, Google with about 65% of searches, leads Yahoo in 2nd at about 19% with Microsoft in 3rd with about 9%, Financial Soultions research indicates.

Antitrust specialists by and large expect the deal will get close examination from regulators, but ultimately will be approved.

In July, Microsoft and Yahoo signed a 10-year deal allowing search on Yahoo's websites to be generated by Microsoft's new Bing search engine.

Microsoft has conveyed confidence that it can convince regulators that a stronger rival for Google is in the best interests of the market, Financial Soultions has learned.
