Sept. 17, 2009 - PRLog -- Demand for rainwater harvesting is growing rapidly and consequently the number of systems coming onto the market is multiplying.

With this rapid growth have come obvious concerns about the need for regulation and control of the quality of the products in order to maintain market and consumer confidence in the sector.  British Standard BS 8515:2009 was published earlier this year to ensure consistently high levels of design, construction and reliability.

Kingspan Water, a leading supplier of rainwater harvesting equipment to the UK building industry, and one of the companies involved in drafting the Standard, has published a guide to BS 8515 on its website.  It aims to turn what may appear to be a daunting process of standard compliance into a simple one.

The Kingspan Water guide offers an overview of principles covered in BS 8515:2009 for UK rainwater recycling, including design, installation, compliance, regulations and maintenance of systems.  It answers questions that range from, “Why are three different design approaches suggested within BS 8515?”; to, “Does the rainwater tank require an overflow?”

Gerry Quinn, product manager at Kingspan Water, says: “The popularity of rainwater harvesting systems has grown rapidly in the UK in recent years, largely thanks to environmental rating schemes such as BREEAM and The Code for Sustainable Homes.  Most mechanical and electrical (M&E) consultants now see both rainwater harvesting and greywater harvesting as routine additions to their new projects.

“This booklet is intended as a handy introduction to the new industry code of practice for anyone looking for an easy-to-understand guide.”
