Sept. 21, 2009 - PRLog -- In pursuance to the series of lectures "Our Spiritual Heritage" organized by Bhagavaan Gopinathji Trust, from time to time, Swami Kumarji of Gita Satsang Ashram, Muthi, Jammu, was the guest speaker in today's programme. The lecture was delivered at Bhagavaan Gopinathji Ashram, Udaiwala, Jammu and the topic was "Significance of Navratras".

Swamiji was given a warm reception by the Trustees and a large gathering of devotees who were eager to listen to the discourse. The welcome address was read by M.K. Tikoo, senior Trustee,

Swami Kumarji's emphasized upon the importance of thirst in an aspirant for attending Satsanga because then only can he grasp the ideas and thoughts of the discourse. He gave a lucid account of the various facets in the life of a common man and persuaded the gathering to ponder over the subtle issues like who I am, to whom I belong, who belongs to me and where do I belong to etc. etc.

Swamiji elaborated the importance and significance of each day of the Navratra which is devoted to a particular form of Mother Goddess in a common man's parlance. He stressed upon the listeners to have faith and devotion upon the Mother who is always eager to take care of the woes of her devotees. To shun ego in the path of spirituality is a prerequisite and there can not be any progress in this field till then.

He said that the "Pitra Paksha" that precedes the Navratras provide us with an opportunity to purify our senses and immediately thereafter during the nine days of Navratras we pray to the nine forms of Mother Goddess to bestow us with her grace and blessings. On the Dusherra day we burn the effigy of Ravana that is the evil in us and the celebrations on the Diwali day signify our ultimate union with the supreme.

He also recited many shalokas of Bhagavad Gita during his discourse and emphasized upon the gathering to make constant efforts to mould their lives as prescribed in Bhagavad Gita. The vote of thanks was presented by Dr. Sushil Wattal Trustee.
