Celebrate the arrival of the Autumnal Equinox September 22!

Sept. 22, 2009 - PRLog -- Move over summer; fall has arrived! September 22 marks the Autumnal Equinox, a time of the year where day and night are the same length.  Globally recognized, this holiday honors the arrival of autumn and all she brings! Celebrate the first day of fall and its cooler weather, crisp air, and most importantly, the radiant colors of those autumn leaves! One of the only times in the year when day and night are almost equally long, the Autumnal Equinox marks an ancient holiday whose roots are traced back to before the Middle Ages! On this special day, the Sun appears to cross the celestial equator, from north to south; this marks the beginning of autumn in the Northern Hemisphere. (The only other time this occurs is March 21, during the Vernal Equinox, marking the beginning of spring in the Northern Hemisphere.) Countries around the world still celebrate the occasion, from making special rice cakes and honoring the moon in China, to dances that encourage a fertile crop in the coming year in Nigeria.
