Happy Finish sees strong demand for CGI

Happy Finish, one of London’s most established Retouching and CGI collectives, is reporting a surge in its creative CGI work, indicating a boost in the global economic recovery.

Sept. 25, 2009 - PRLog -- The collective, founded in 2003 has expanded into CGI and has recently added projects for commercial photography, automotive and luxury advertising to its high-end portfolio.

Happy Finish CGI, launched in October of 2008, has become a firmly integrated part of the post production agency, through recruitment of some of the best creative talent. Despite advertising budgets being the first to suffer during last year’s credit crunch, the collective have seen demand rise dramatically as more and more advertisers turn to new technology to meet their needs.

“People are very cost conscious in these times”, explains MD Stuart Waplington, “CGI can achieve highest standards of photo-realistic quality within a reduced budget. Another benefit is CGI’s multi channel uses, allowing for one project to be used for print, web, moving images and interactive material. These multi-channel possibilities are especially useful for companies who are increasingly looking for return on investment focussing on the web.”

Additionally, Stuart explains what Happy Finish has recognised and does differently: “Photographers often feel threatened by CGI, as it is sometimes seen to take over the photographer’s job. In a small number of cases pure CGI is the way to go to make an image, particularly when it’s a simple packshot concept. But invariably projects involve a mix of CGI & photography, and the photographer is always at the heart of the process because it is their visual style that the agency works to recreate.”

“CGI is not a threat but an opportunity. The photographers we work with have embraced CGI as a new tool to use in their projects. They can now offer their clients a wider range of creative possibilities whilst cutting the production costs of elements or environments that would have been too costly to set build or shoot in location. It’s a win-win situation,” explains Stuart.

Examples of Happy Finish CGI work can be found in the July edition of Creative Review Magazine and on the Happy Finish website, that also shows stages of the process.
