Oct. 1, 2009 - PRLog -- (Boston, MA) Constellation NewEnergy is pleased to be working with the Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts to match 100 percent of the electricity used during their annual Leading Women Awards with renewable energy. Constellation NewEnergy will supply Green e-Certified Wind Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) for the prestigious awards event, which takes place on Thursday, October 29th at the Seaport World Trade Center in Boston.

RECs represent the clean-air benefits from electricity generated from wind, solar or other renewable power facilities. Renewable energy generators such as wind farms and solar array operators are granted renewable energy certificates for every megawatt-hour of electricity that their facilities generate.  Proceeds from REC sales help make renewable energy generation more affordable and incentivize the development of sources of clean, renewable energy.

"Constellation NewEnergy is pleased to be working with the Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts to support domestic sources of renewable energy—a natural move for longtime environmental advocates," said Emily Neill, vice president of Constellation NewEnergy. “We’re particularly enthusiastic about helping to educate young women about renewable energy because they will play a key role in ensuring a sustainable energy future.”

“The Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts is committed to making the world a better place, and a critical part of that is ensuring the environment is protected and sustained. Our curriculum, “It’s Your Planet – Love It”, is the centerpiece of activities and education for all girls ages 6-17 and will engage them to make an impact in this area,” said Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts CEO Ruth N. Bramson. “We are very excited that Constellation NewEnergy is able to help us actualize our mission at our signature Leading Women event.”

Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts will honor Jackie Glenn, Chief Diversity Officer, EMC Corporation; Paula Adina Johnson, M.D, M.P.H., Chief, Division of Women’s Health and Executive Director, Connors Center for Women’s Health and Gender Biology, Brigham and Women’s Hospital; Julie Kahn, Vice President/New England Market Manager for Entercom; Barbara Lee, Principal of The Barbara Lee Family Foundation and Sue Morelli, President and CEO of Au Bon Pain. In 2008 Leading Women Breakfast began a new tradition with honoring a man at the event with the award - Leading Man in a Supporting Role. This year, Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts will honor Chancellor J. Keith Motley, Ph.D., of the University of Massachusetts – Boston as Leading Man in a Supporting Role.

The Leading Women Awards Breakfast is the Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts’ signature fundraising event which brings hundreds of women and other members of the greater Boston business community together to celebrate women leaders, honor our awardees, and to support the Girl Scout mission. These Leading Woman Awardees exemplify the Girl Scout mission to build woman of courage, confidence and character, who make the world a better place. Scouting inspires, challenges, and empowers girls to discover their values and passions. Innovation and creativity are at the very core of the Girl Scout experience. The role these women play in the community is a true inspiration to our Girl Scouts, and we are very proud to honor them!

Since 1992, the Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts has honored over 180 women leaders with the Leading Women award. The Leading Women Awards raises funds to support Girl Scout programs which are relevant to today’s girls, their interests in fitness and health, science, technology, engineering, and math and, most importantly, serving their communities. Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts strives to meet the needs and challenges girls face today and give them the tools to set them on their path to future success. The Girl Scout experience is open to all girls. The funds raised through our Leading Women Awards event help develop and deliver innovative programming to help today’s girls become tomorrow’s leaders.
