Financial Soultions: Obama wants administration to set environmental example.

The American president says the federal government must set the example regarding global warming.

Oct. 11, 2009 - PRLog -- In a recently signed executive order, Barak Obama has obliged all agencies to do what he has asked companies operating power plants, running refineries and making automobiles to do: cut greenhouse gases, Financial Soultions sources have revealed.

All federal agencies will be required to set the first targets for reducing climate change pollution from its buildings, fleets and employee’s transport.

Financial Soultions understands that he has given the agencies 90 days to inform the White House of their plans to measure and cut greenhouse gases from buildings and vehicles by 2020. Targets for employees' transport and travel will be due before June 2010.

"As the largest consumer of energy in the U.S. economy, the Federal Government can and should lead by example when it comes to creating innovative ways to reduce greenhouse gas emissions," Obama said in a statement available to Financial Soultions.

The latest directive comes as the Obama government has new legislation before the Senate which will require automakers and large industrial facilities to decrease greenhouse gas emissions. The White House, which recently has been accused of putting health care ahead of climate change, is in a position to show much-needed advancement toward reducing greenhouse gases before more than 180 countries convene in Copenhagen in December to strike a new international accord to slow global warming.
