By: Chapman Freeborn The Gatwick-based company was ranked 155th in the annual league table of Britain’s biggest mid-market private companies having come in at 162nd in 2008. Despite the global downturn, the Sunday Times commended those on the list for having proved ‘remarkably resourceful and resilient through 12 months of recession’. It also praised the mid-market firms for their innovation in increasing their sales by creating fresh products and reaching out to new customers at home and abroad. Chapman Freeborn provides air charter and aircraft leasing services to a wide range of customers from VIPs and tour operators to humanitarian aid organisations and national governments. The company helps move cargo and passengers, coordinating more than 5,000 charters in 2008. Operating out of 32 offices in 22 countries, earlier this year it expanded into Africa with a new office in Uganda. Other companies featured in this year’s list include household names such as Manchester United, Harrods, Weetabix, and McLaren F1.
