Washington County Rotaract Says Panhandling for Polio Works

For the second time, Washington County Rotaract will be “panhandling” for donations in the Portland. Donations go toward Rotary’s Polio Plus Challenge. This event is in preparation for World Panhandling Day sponsored by the club in 2010.

Oct. 14, 2009 - PRLog -- Once again, Washington County Rotaract will be “Panhandling for Polio.” With the success and popularity of the first event earlier in the summer, “panhandlers” will once again be asking for donations along freeway exit ramps. Donations will go toward the Polio Plus Challenge to help fund the final push to eradicate polio from the world.

In addition to the Beaverton locations along Highway 217, Rotaracters and volunteers will be in Tualatin near the Bridgeport Shopping Center and Vancouver at 164th and Mill Plain. Getting caught up in the excitement, the youngest Rotarians, known as Interactors, will be trying their hand at panhandling. In addition to carrying signs at the freeway ramps, they will also be gathering donations at their schools.

This phase of Panhandling for Polio is the second in a three part strategy to launch World Panhandling Day. Organized by Washington County Rotaract, over thirty clubs in at least sixteen countries will be panhandling on the same day in 2010. “We are so happy with the feedback we got from the worldwide Rotary community, we want take this idea to the rest of the world,” says Stefanie Milliman, past-president of the club.
