Thayer Hotel Hosts Special Autumn Wine Dinner

Oct. 14, 2009 - PRLog -- The historic Thayer Hotel at West Point will host a special Wine Dinner on Saturday, November 6, beginning at 6 p.m. in the Main Dining Room.  

It all begins with a wine and cheese reception, followed by a delicious four-course dinner, featuring a variety of Chilean wines to be paired with each course.  Start out with an appetizer of smoked duck and potato tart with walnut chutney, then enjoy a fresh crisp salad of mixed greens with goat cheese, heirloom tomatoes and citrus vinaigrette.

Dine on a delectable entrée of roast rack of veal with lingonberry sauce, fingerling potatoes and haricot vert.  Crepes filled with double chocolate sauce and truffles complete the meal. Built in 1926, the Thayer Hotel is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is the only full-service hotel on the Hudson River from the George Washington Bridge to Albany, New York.  Originally constructed to accommodate U.S. Military Academy personnel and their guests, the Thayer Hotel was a successor of the original West Point Hotel.  The Hotel is named for Colonel Sylvanus Thayer, Superintendent of the Academy from 1817 to 1833.
