Return Of The Flapper - A Modern Must Have!

Nov. 10, 2009 - PRLog -- For some time now, the 'retro' image has been the 'in' trend, especially with the rise of high street stores such as Pop Boutique and Oxfam Vintage which specialise in quirky vintage clothing and accessories. All dedicated followers of fashion know that these are the places to be and be seen in.

For those with the more expensive tastes, the vintage style is still at its peak on the designer catwalk and more recently, the 1920's Flapper styles are coming to the fore, perfect for night-time fashion in the fast approaching colder months ensuring plenty of sparkle on show.

Designers such as Karen Millen and Paul & Joe have both launched their own take on the instantly recognisable Flapper Dress using straight cut silhouettes, creating a bit of sex appeal with a short hem and tassling. In addition to this you can now find sleeker more delicate hair accessories to match such as Anna Sui's butterfly band from her fall collection.

Personally I am thrilled as I have always loved the luxurious glamour of the era where young women were liberated after the war with the knowledge that life is short and what time they had should be spent enjoying themselves, not staying home waiting to marry a man who may never arrive.

Although the flapper lifestyle ended when the economy crashed and the Great Depression curtailed the Roaring Twenties and so too the night life, the freedoms tasted were not so easily given up. It is to this decade that we owe the automobile, Jazz age music, short skirts, voting and of course the 'bob'.

If nothing else you have to admire the sheer hedonism and sense of self-empowered freedom and to this end, it is only fitting that the latest products to hit the market are the home furnishing tributes to the era, from ornamental figurines to coffee cups, all of which tread the line between subtlety and glamour with ease.

The latest piece to be flying off the shelves is the newly released, exquisite Charleston Lady figurine by Leonardo which is fantastically detailed and elegantly positioned on a chair.
