Too Sweet Opens in Balboa Island, California

Nov. 24, 2009 - PRLog -- They say that when life hands you lemons, the best thing to do is to make lemonade. When lemons landed in the lap of Nadia Bakho and Radim Konecny, they decided to trade them in for apples.
The two have recently opened Too Sweet on Marine Avenue, Balboa Island’s main thoroughfare. It wasn’t the original plan; their subleased space adjacent to their successful Tutti Frutti frozen yogurt shop had been empty for a year, and finally the two entrepreneurs decided to take the leap.
They completed their due diligence about what would be the best business to add to Balboa Island’s unique character, and Nadia’s love for caramel apples and chocolate proved to be the right choice. Nadia and Radim wanted to be sure that their shop would allow customers to buy a delicious treat for a reasonable price.
Once they had their plan, the pair set about creating a warm and inviting retail shop for their brainchild, Too Sweet, which opened its doors on September 19, 2009. Even if you are not a fan of frozen yogurt or caramel apples, the Tutti Frutti and Too Sweet shops are worth a visit, just to see the innovative interiors.
Everyone is talking about the large glass wall that runs almost the entire length of the interior between the two shops, allowing visitors of either shop to see into the other. Many have commented on the decadence of Too Sweet—and they’re not just referring to the chocolates and other treats that fill the display cabinets, but also the rich, indulgent shades of brown that cover the walls, and the décor of the shop itself.
“One thing I have been so impressed and touched by is the support of the community,” says Nadia. “So many locals stopped by to say how happy they are that we opened both of our shops. They come in to tell us how pretty both shops are! It makes us feel so good; not only that we made the right decision, but that we are so welcome here.”
Tutti Frutti and Too Sweet complement the established businesses on the street that have made Balboa Island’s reputation, but they are certainly injecting Marine Avenue with an exciting new vibe that appeals to tourists and locals alike.
But the magic happens inside Too Sweet, with four displays filled with delicious goodies, including an array of caramel- and candy-covered apples; homemade fudge; chocolate-dipped strawberries; gourmet chocolates and truffles; and homemade treats such as S’mores and chocolate peanut butter sandwiches.
Too Sweet also offers gift baskets in a variety of sizes an custom orders for Orange County companies, schools and corporate parties.
It seems that this little Balboa Island shop of treats has a big following—and in a very short time.
Are they happy they did it? “Absolutely,” Nadia confirms. “I was stuck in corporate for 18 years, and always wanted to start my own business. This is my dream come true!”
