India Denim Day 2009 - 1 December : An Exclusive Bouquet of Events Dedicated to HIV & AIDS Awareness as a part of India Denim Day 2009 Campaign

New Delhi, 27th November 2009 – The Denim Club India is organizing a program on 1st December 2009, coinciding with the World AIDS Day, to promote HIV & AIDS Awareness. The program offers an exclusive bouquet of events dedicated to HIV & AIDS Awareness. The highlights of the program are a SKIT by the  street-play team of Salaam Baalak Trust, screening of a short film - POSITIVE - by Farhan Akhtar, and an interactive session on Myths about HIV and AIDS.

Also part of the India Denim Day event will be various competitions, like, On-the-spot Poster Making for school students, Debate for school and college students, a T-Shirt Design competition for students of fashion, design and apparel. The competitions shall revolve around the 2009 Campaign Theme "Do Something & Make A Difference".

The competitions are open for participation to students from all schools / colleges. The participants whose entries are adjudged best in the competitions will be felicitated and given prizes and gifts on the same day. The Denim Club India has been running a "Denim Give Away Drive" as a part of the India Denim Day 2009 Campaign, in which old and un-used denim garments are being collected from one and all, to be given away to People Living with HIV. A "drop-off point" will be set-up at the venue of program on 1 December as well, so that the guests can bring along the denims they wish to donate on that day itself.

The event shall be organized at the Federation of Indian Export Organizations building [Niryat Bhawan], Rao Tula Ram Marg, New Delhi, from 2 pm to 5.30 pm.

Mr. Prashant Gupta, CEO, Cognate India, who shall be hosting the India Denim Day 2009 event, said “We are proud to be associated with the India Denim Day campaign, and support the initiative and the noble cause, whole-heartedly.”

Expressing his thoughts on how the competitions will assist in the fight against AIDS, Mr. R. Dudeja, Founder, Denim Club India said, “The competitions will lay the foundation to initiating dialogue about HIV and AIDS, and spreading awareness amongst youth, and through them amongst the parents and peer-groups. The goal is to engage the youth in a fun-filled and interactive way, so that they become aware, express their views and get motivated to do small things to make a difference.”

India Denim Day is organized every year on 1 December to coincide with the World AIDS Day - with the objective of contributing the proverbial drop in the ocean, for HIV and AIDS awareness.
