Johnson lost her job in management in the summer of 2008. She continues to search for work, but refuses to put all of her eggs in one basket which led her to blogging and starting a women’s entrepreneurial group, The Original Self-Employed Collaboration (OSEC) of Austin.

“If people don’t have a clearly defined action plan and proactively execute that plan, they’re setting themselves up for continued hardship in today’s economy,” says Johnson.

The newly re-launched blog offers support and encouragement to readers by sharing real-life experiences from someone familiar with the daily struggle of surviving unemployment, while also providing valuable coaching to those transitioning from unemployed to entrepreneur. Blog posts cover topics ranging from personal branding to strategies for saving money on monthly bills.

Johnson’s advice is simple and practical and she believes this is the perfect time to explore your options for making money by turning your hobbies and interests into a home-based business. “Take advantage of every free resource available to you and find a network that supports your growth,” she says.

“Being unemployed doesn’t define you. How you overcome the situation is what shapes your character and writes the next chapter of your life,” says Johnson.
