“I feel honored that they nominated us during our first year in business. It feels like San Benito County has definitely welcomed us,” Ella King, proprietor, says. Café Ella was nominated by community members for the restaurant’s commitment to serving the surrounding areas. King and the staff at Café Ella is proud to have participated in many events benefitting San Benito County such as Dine Out Help Out, where 10 percent of the restaurant’s proceeds were donated to the Community Food Bank of San Benito County; Taste of San Juan Bautista, an event raising funds to prevent the expansion of Highway 156, in which a three-course meal was provided to guests; and the 4th Annual Jazz Under the Stars, benefitting the Homeless Task Force of San Benito County. Café Ella also provided services to organizations throughout Santa Cruz and Monterey counties, including the Children’s Hospice of Santa Cruz County’s Dinner and Dance Gala; Pajaro Valley Evening of Wine and Roses, a fundraiser for the Community Health Trust; and Kinship Center, benefitting foster children. The event honoring the Man, Woman and Business of the Year, “Have a Ball — Celebrating Success: A Black & White Affair,” is set for Saturday, Jan. 16 at San Juan Oaks Golf Club in Hollister. Serving both the Hollister and Watsonville areas, Café Ella is committed to serving healthy, homemade fare from foods grown locally and offers patrons a fine-dining experience at a reasonable price, King says. The Hollister restaurant, 1709 Airline Hwy., #A, serves made-from-scratch lunches and dinners while the Watsonville location, 734 E.
