Jan. 28, 2010 - PRLog -- WORLD No2 Phil Mickelson expressed his being "cares deeply" about what happens with Tiger Woods' marriage and insists he'll not talk about the Poor’s public life in the weeks and months ahead as he doesn't want to sabotage their friendship.

Commenting for the first time on the world No1 finding himself at the centre of a scandal that has led to him taking an indefinite break from the game, Mickelson spoke caringly about the situation Woods has found himself in.

Meanwhile, as he was preparing to make his first appearance of the season in the Farmers Insurance Open in San Diego, the Californian insisted he is confident about his chances of becoming the world No1 for the first time in his career this year – as far as Woods cease to compete against. "Golf needs him to come back, it's important for him to come back and be part and be part of the sport. But right now he's got a lot more important things going on in his life," from Mickelson in his pre-tournament interview at Torrey Pines.

“[Wife] Amy and I are good friends with both Tiger and Elin and we care deeply about how this turn out. I'm going to choose not to talk about publicly any more – I'm sure you will understand that."

When the questions go to why he choose not to talk about such a important matter that has shaken golf world and led Woods to check into a sex addiction clinic in Mississippi, Mickelson added: "Because he's a friend and I feel doing so would be a violation of that friendship."

Mickelson, who is about to start his 19th season on the PGA Tour and will turn 40 on the eve of this year's US Open at Pebble Beach, finished last season strongly by winning the Tour Championship in Georgia and then the WGC-HSBC Champions tournament in China. He's been working hard over the past few weeks with coach Butch Harmon as well as Dave Stockton and Dave Pelz, the other members of 'Team Mickelson' and believes an exciting season is insight. "Golf was not the most important thing in my life (his wife Amy and mother Mary were diagnosed with breast cancer and had surgery within a week of each other] in the middle of last season but, in the end, I was very grateful the way the year turned out," he added.

"I've been trying all my career to get to No1 [in the world] but I've just not had much success. With or without Tiger, I expected this year to be one of the best of my career, having had some great success in head-to-heads [with Woods] over the past year or two."

Mickelson sure a in hell that he will miss next month's WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship in Arizona to take a family holiday which had to be postponed because of Amy's treatment.

"I love the Match Play and I love Tucson but it was the best week for us to have a family vacation that we had to reschedule because of our procedures," he said. "We had a couple of procedures scheduled for this off-season that got postponed. We had to move one into March and this affected some of our family trips."

"I expect this to kind of happen a little bit throughout this year, maybe missing tournaments I would like to play or normally would play. But later on in the year, I'll probably add a tournament that I hadn't originally planned on playing to kind of offset it."

Kenny Perry, one member of the winning United States team in the 2008 Ryder Cup in Kentucky, has urged Woods to return to his golfing family. World No13 Perry, who is playing in the Qatar Masters this week, believes the 14-time major winner Woods needs to make his comeback for himself and not for the good of the game.

"I think he needs to come back. I think we're his family, too," said 49-year-old Perry, who has held his US PGA Tour card continually since 1986. "I enjoy going to the tour each week because there's 150 guys that I'm pretty close with, that I love to go out with and hang out with and be with. I think, if he comes back to us, I think he'll get a lot of support from the players, I really do. I'm going to give him a hug and shake his hand and tell him if he needs to talk to me or if I can help in any way, I will. I think that's the way we all should be."

Rocco Mediate, the player Woods beat in a play-off when he hobbled to victory in the 2008 US Open at Torrey Pines, is well aware that a vital ingredient is missing there this week.

"A little different here than a year and a half ago," said Mediate. "I don't know what to say about that [Woods' absence]. Any time he's not in the field, it's obviously not the best field we have."

Mediate believes Mickelson would rather have the world No1 to shoot at than take advantage of his absence. "If I was Phil, the way Phil is, he needs him in that field," he added. "I would think that's what he would think. I'd like to think (with) the best guy, I'm going to get beaten a lot of the times, but you never know, there's a couple times it might not happen.

So this is the world, if I were here you would have hated me in the bones, but as I am absent they will say that they misses me so much even their golf clubs will cry for the absence of their greatest counterpart. No matter what their request is, the world will still be going, yesterday you are at the crown, but now I am, tomorrow no one should be thinking about that. for more info at http://www.mygolfwholesale.com
