Implementing Lean Management with Strategy Deployment Is a New Online Video Learning Event

“Strategy Deployment: The Key to Leading the Lean Enterprise,” a unique online video training session, will show the strategy deployment process in action as a key element of an overall lean management system, Feb. 24, 2010.

Feb. 4, 2010 - PRLog -- To use lean business methods like value-stream mapping and kaizen most effectively, companies must deploy them as part of  lean management systems. Strategy deployment, a management process that aligns— both vertically and horizontally— an organization’s functions and activities with its strategic objectives is a critical but underused component of lean management.

How to implement strategy deployment from the senior executive level to frontline staff is the subject of “Strategy Deployment: The Key to Leading the Lean Enterprise,” a special online video seminar with a follow-up live Q&A set for Wednesday, Feb. 24, 2010, at 11 a.m. EST. The interactive video training features strategy deployment practitioner John Toussaint, M.D., CEO emeritus of ThedaCare and CEO of the ThedaCare Center for Healthcare Value (TCHV).

Registration is open now at the Healthcare Value Leaders web site.

“The goal here is to show you how you can take a strategy from the senior executive level and deploy it through to the frontlines,” Toussaint said. “We’ve assembled this video presentation because strategy deployment is one of the keys to a successful lean implementation process.”

Although the training is about strategy deployment in a regional health system, executives from any industry who have questions about strategy deployment will benefit from this event, said Mark Graban, a senior fellow at the Lean Enterprise Institute (LEI), noting that ThedaCare learned the methodology from manufacturing. “The lessons from this session will be applicable across industries,” he said

This interactive video event is presented by Healthcare Value Leaders, a partnership between LEI and TCHV.

Lean Training in Two Parts
The 30-minute pre-recorded video begins with a simple introduction to strategy deployment and how it fits into the ThedaCare Improvement System. Then, starting with a visit to a “visual room” used by senior managers, Toussaint gives viewers a closer look at the strategy deployment process in action at different levels of the company by visiting the workplaces of a vice president, a clinic manager, and frontline staff.

Registration gives seminar participants immediate access to the pre-recorded video, which they can watch as many times as they want before the Q&A. On Feb. 24 at 11a.m. EST, Toussaint will take questions about strategy deployment and lean management during a live video session from ThedaCare.  The entire 90 minutes of material will be available for on-demand viewing through March 31.

For the Whole Leadership Team
“We encourage you to project the session in a conference room or auditorium and include your whole team,” said Graban. “This is a great opportunity to educate your whole leadership team about strategy deployment by bringing Dr. Toussaint to your organization, virtually.”

By applying lean concepts, ThedaCare removed more than $23 million in costs without layoffs while improving quality patient safety, wait times, and costs.
