Marketing Jobs on the rise as recession lifts

Feb. 8, 2010 - PRLog -- The number of marketing jobs being offered by small businesses may increase if new figures are to be believed.  A recent report compiled by Eclipse Internet suggests that a large proportion of such firms feel optimistic about the next 12 months and on the back of this could well undertake marketing recruitment in order to benefit from the improving market conditions.

It discovered that eight out of ten small companies are positive concerning their prospects, even though two-thirds of this same group did not expect a recovery until the autumn. Responding to the findings, head of marketing at Eclipse Internet Simon Harper said: "I suppose there is some insight that small businesses are better placed to recover or to perform well when the economy recovers." He added that the best thing small enterprises can do is to focus on what they perform most successfully in.

A traditional school of thought suggests that marketing jobs are often the first jobs to go during a recession as companies aim to streamline themselves and cut any costs that are not essential to the survival of their business. Other schools of thought contend that a recession is a great time to actually maintain or boost marketing efforts. These theories largely revolve around taking advantage of the situation created by other companies cutting down on their marketing – this provides an opportunity to increase market share (in an albeit reduced market) with the hope that as the economy picks up, this share can be retained.
Either way, the increasingly positive indicators evident in the economy should signal a better year for marketing job-seekers throughout the United Kingdom.
