Feb. 18, 2010 - PRLog -- Adelphi University has announced the appointment of Rakesh Gupta as Dean of its AACSB accredited School of Business. Dean Gupta has been serving as interim dean since the summer of 2008. This decision follows a comprehensive national search and the position is effective immediately.

“Dean Gupta has been a vital member of the Adelphi community and I am very pleased that he has accepted this pivotal leadership position. During his tenure, our School of Business enrollment has grown, alumni support has increased, and we have continued to add distinguished faculty to the School’s ranks. In the last few years, we have expanded the School’s partnerships with regional businesses and added alumni and business leaders to its external Advisory Board-both hallmarks of distinction and our commitment to excellence. I thank the search committee for their efforts, and am confident that our decision will lay the foundation for continued progress and exciting and innovative opportunities for our students and faculty,” said President Robert A. Scott.

Dean Gupta joined Adelphi University in 1978 as an assistant professor in the School of Business. Since that time, he has held many leadership positions of increasing responsibility. He has published numerous articles in research journals and presented at international conferences; he has won a number of best paper awards, most recently at the 2009 Annual London Conference on Money, Economy, and Management. To provide international opportunities for students, he has developed affiliations with universities in India, China, France, Taiwan, Egypt, and the Czech Republic. In January 2010, he successfully led the School’s first China immersion program bringing 24 students and faculty to China for an intensive “Business in China” course. Among his many accomplishments and recognitions, he has been given the 2010 India Republic Day Award by the Town of Hempstead and the Indian American Forum for outstanding contributions to education and American public life. He is often quoted in the press, most recently on the current economic and financial crisis, and serves on the World Trade Council of the Long Island Association.

“During his career at Adelphi, Dean Gupta has developed innovative programs, taken measures to ensure the University’s success in its pursuit of AACSB accreditation, and championed opportunities for students. I look forward to working with him to further enhance our programs as we continue to serve as an educational leader in the region with programs recognized for their excellence, relevance, and innovation,” said Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs Gayle D. Insler.
