Brown MD and Patricia Gerbarg MD Present Mental Wellness Techniques at International College of Integrative Medicine 52nd Congress March 19, 2010 Los Angeles, CA - Richard P Brown, MD, and Patricia Gerbarg, MD, internationally renowned pioneers of CAM (Complementary and Alternative Medicine) and co-authors of the award-winning How To Use Herbs, Nutrients, and Yoga in Mental Health Care (WW Norton, 2009) with Philip Muskin, MD, will present “Movement and Breath: Keys to Healthy Transformation,” Drs. Brown and Gerbarg will provide a glimpse into advanced breath techniques, as well as movement and meditation practices they developed to help stressed and traumatized people improve energy, sleep quality, stress resilience, and peace of mind. Their work is a unique fusion of ancient and modern mind-body approaches derived from QiGong, yoga, Christian monks, Coherent Breathing, Open Focus Meditation, and martial arts. Dr. Brown is Associate Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at Columbia University in New York. He gives over 200 medical lectures every year, including full-day courses for the American Psychiatric Association and other professional groups. He is a certified teacher of Aikido (4th Dan), Yoga, Qi Gong, and meditation. His workshops, sponsored by the non-profit, Serving Those Who Serve (www.STWS.org) Dr. Gerbarg is an Assistant Professor in Clinical Psychiatry at New York Medical College. She graduated from Harvard Medical School and the Boston Psychoanalytic Society and Institute. In addition to her clinical practice, she provides consultation and facilitates the development of research projects on the health benefits of mind-body practices for recovery from mass disasters such at the September 11th World Trade Center attacks, the southeast Asian tsunami, and military personnel.
