March 19, 2010 - PRLog -- REAL MADRID will play Saturday against Sporting Gijón at the Bernabeu Stadium, to defend the leadership of the league, against the 12th position team. Real cannot count on Benzema and Kaká. due to injuries. Also out of Manuel Pellegrini’s squad is Diarra, Mali midfielder who suffered a sprained right ankle.

The Merengues coach can however count on Cristiano Ronaldo to defend the championship lead. Real are in first place with 65 points, the same as Barcelona who are second. The Catalans play Sunday in Zaragoza.

The current buzz in Spain is about Cristiano Ronaldo and the hard tackles that the Portuguese striker is a target of. "Cristiano does not need to be afraid because the players of Gijón will not injure him," began by saying Manuel Preciado, coach of the Asturian team. "We will play against Real Madrid and not against Ronaldo," he continued.

Preciado ended by praising Cristiano Ronaldo, Portugal and Real Madrid star. "Whatever he does becomes news, whether good or bad, because he is the most mediatic player at the moment", giving as example the play in which CR9 was sent off for striking an opponent during the Malaga-Real Madrid game, "If it were during a Xerez-Gijon game no one would talk about it even for a minute".

The Sporting Gijón coach also defended his colleague, Manuel Pellegrini, having earned his admiration for the work of the Chilean coach: "Real Madrid has improved constantly, even though they suffered highs and lows. He is becoming the victim of a witch hunt, which is regrettable”.

The game on Saturday will start at 7pm, Preciado said that his team has "much to gain and little to lose" adding that they will go into the Bernabeu to win the 3 points.

"Ronaldo is not  a provocative player” - Pellegrini

The Real coach, Manuel Pellegrini, dismissed any such criticism of Cristiano Ronaldo saying that the Portugal international "is not provocative," as opposed to allegations he had received from the Valladolid players.

"No player in our team played a violent game. And no one responded to kicks with kicks. What happens is that nobody likes to be dribbled by Ronaldo, but he is not a bully. He is a player who likes to face the opponent”, argued the Chilean coach.
