Brown and Patricia Gerbarg Present Mind Body Practices for Mental Wellness at the Psychotherapy Networker Symposium March 28, 2010 Los Angeles, CA - Richard P Brown, MD, and Patricia Gerbarg, MD, internationally renowned pioneers of CAM (Complementary and Alternative Medicine) and co-authors of the award-winning How To Use Herbs, Nutrients, and Yoga in Mental Health Care (WW Norton, 2009) with Philip Muskin, MD, will present a full-day workshop entitled “The Power of Breath: Neurophysiological Tools for Self Regulation,” The workshop from 10:30 am to 3:30 pm includes a morning session on the neurophysiology and research in mind-body practices for stress, anxiety, and PTSD. The afternoon session will be an experiential training in Breath~Body~ Dr. Brown is Associate Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at Columbia University in New York. He gives over 200 medical lectures every year, including full-day courses for the American Psychiatric Association and other professional groups. He is a certified teacher of Aikido (4th Dan), Yoga, Qi Gong, and meditation. His workshops, sponsored by the non-profit, Serving Those Who Serve (www.STWS.org) Dr. Gerbarg is an Assistant Professor in Clinical Psychiatry at New York Medical College. She graduated from Harvard Medical School and the Boston Psychoanalytic Society and Institute. In addition to her clinical practice, she provides consultation and facilitates the development of research projects on the health benefits of mind-body practices for recovery from mass disasters such at the September 11th World Trade Center attacks, the southeast Asian tsunami, and military personnel.
