March 24, 2010 - PRLog -- Pacific Hills School Juniors Kate Rosen and Michael Mulay will be co-honored with the 2010 L.A. County Arts Commission Student Volunteer of the Year Award in April. The award honors the summer-long commitment of the pair to serve the arts community at the Ford Amphitheatre.

Michael and Kate joined the volunteer staff at the John Anson Ford Amphitheatre at the beginning of the 2009 summer season. Together, Michael and Kate volunteered for upwards of 70 events, logging over 300 hours in four short months during the Ford’s summer season.

“Michael’s and Kate’s excellent customer service, leadership and flexibility helped them become an integral part of the Ford’s Volunteer Staff.  Leading by example, they illustrated what real teamwork can accomplish,” states Bill Berry, Events Service Manager at the Ford.

"Their seamless integration into the Ford staff proved to be a considerable value to the Arts Commission and to the County," continues Berry, "Michael and Kate also showed their leadership by working with each new volunteer throughout the season...Michael and Kate brought a veritable "youthquake" to the Ford volunteer staff."

“Community volunteerism is an integral part of Pacific Hills School’s mission.  Students volunteer for a minimum of 30 hours as part of their graduation requirement, with most completing far more,” states Ann Wagner, Community Service Coordinator.  “Our students serve in a variety of ways, including recent volunteerism in Americorp’s City Heroes program, the UCLA Volunteer Center’s H1N1 free vaccine clinic, The Southern California Council for Soviet Jews’ Holocaust Survivor’s Group and The Trevor Project.  The Associated Student Body also raises funds annually for a worthwhile cause, this year selecting The Red Cross for donations and a school-wide blood drive.”

Of the award, Michael Mulay states, “It is an honor to be recognized for something for which I never expected to be recognized.  To me, community service is about more than one’s self.”  Kate Rosen adds "I am so honored and proud of myself to get recognized for all the work I did for my community."

The pair will be honored at a luncheon awards ceremony at the Grand Hall of Dorothy Chandler Pavilion on April 12, 2010.
