March 29, 2010 - PRLog -- Wayne, PA-- Doctors Without Borders / Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is an international independent medical humanitarian organization that delivers emergency aid to people affected by armed conflict, epidemics, natural and man-made disasters, and exclusion from health care in nearly 70 countries. A private, non-profit organization, Doctors Without Borders was founded in 1971 as the first non-governmental organization to both provide emergency medical assistance and bear witness publicly to the plight of people it assists.

The Good Song Project is an organization working to benefit  Doctors Without Borders / Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) by marketing unsigned bands, songwriters and independently produced and independently financed "one-hit-wonders" direct to iPods everywhere thru iTunes, Amazon.com, Rhapsody and other mainstream on-line music outlets. "When we say direct to iPods", says GSP founder Mike Hobson, "we mean marketing pop songs by avoiding records labels and their production and distribution costs. And eliminating record labels' production and distribution costs means a much, much higher payday for the artist.  And a 50/50 split", Hobson continues, "means significant money for Doctors Without Borders / Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF)".

Can it work?  Well, judge for yourself... here's how "The Good Song Project"(GSP) works:

GSP is a collection of pop songs that are available on iTunes, Amazon.com, Rhapsody and all of the major on-line outlets.  GSP is working to carve out a new marketing niche in on-line pop music sales.
*Before the GSP on-line marketing model was developed, a $0.99 on-line download fee at iTunes yielded a $0.70 pre-tax earning for a record label.  Citing production and distribution costs, the record label, on average, returned $0.15 to the artist.
*Today, singer/songwriters can produce high quality pop songs on MP3 files at a fraction of the cost a record label requires. On-line distributors like Tunecore.com can upload  songs as MP3 files and distribute to iTunes, Amazon.com and Rhapsody (to name a few) for under $10 a year.
* GSP uses Tunecore.com to upload and distribute their catalogue of songs (MP3 files) to on-line outlets (iTunes, Amazon.com, etc). Revenue (profits) streams directly to the GSP artist at $0.70 per iTunes download, not $0.15.  The artist agrees to split the $0.70 with Doctors Without Borders / Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), and this good will gesture not only makes the world a better place, but hopefully gets the artist some great press.

"I'm suprised that no one has thought of this yet." says Hobson.  "It's a win-win.  Artists get more than they would normaly get with a traditional record deal and Doctors Without Borders / Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) take the profits that normally go to a record label".

GSP's is rumored to have a legtimate "hit" with "Tangled", their first major international offering.  "Tangled" is the work of songwriter Mick Star and producer Jo-Jo Stout taken from Mick Star's larger work, "The Autobiography of Mick Star" (http://www.mickeystar.com).

GSP continues to search out unsigned bands and songwriters to collaborate worldwide and go to the on-line market without record labels, potentially creating a whole new way to market pop music while funding an international independent medical humanitarian organization that delivers emergency aid to people affected by armed conflict, epidemics, natural and man-made disasters, and exclusion from health care in nearly 70 countries.  Ultimately, Doctors Without Borders / Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) becomes the real winner here.
