Dr. Kari Miller, Educational Therapist and Dr. Barbara Klein, Educational Consultant will be the instructors.

Workshop for Parents and Professionals of 2E Students
Date and Time:  April 25, 2010, 2pm – 4:30pm

Parents may suspect that their child is gifted, yet be baffled when their smart child has difficulty learning in certain areas. Some intellectually gifted students also have special learning needs such as a learning disability, dyslexia, ADHD or emotional problems.

When a highly intelligent child has a learning disability, it is difficult for parents to make sense of the learning and behavior patterns they observe. This can result in two problems: the child’s intellectual gifts are not nurtured and developed, and the learning disabilities may not be properly remediated.

Parents and Professionals who attend the workshop will learn practical strategies that can be used immediately to:

1.   Foster the emotional development of 2E children—a key foundation to their academic achievement.
2.   Reduce perfectionism—a key reason 2E children have difficulty in school.
3.   Avoid common parenting traps.
4.   Set boundaries and inspire your child to greatness.
5.   Choose a parenting style that will support academic achievement.
6.   Help your 2E child be more successful with “executive skills” such as organization, memory, maintaining emotional balance, and using effective study strategies.
