April 2, 2010 - PRLog -- The Siemens Foundation has announced a $30,000 grant to the Mathworks program at Texas State University – San Marcos.  The funding will provide operating support and scholarships for high school students to attend the Honors Summer Math Camp that Mathworks will conduct on the university campus during the 2010 summer months.

Established in 1990, the Honors Camp is a six-week residential program for talented high school students who show a passion for mathematics and learning.  Students are taught by university faculty and mentored by undergraduate counselors.  Advanced students have the opportunity to work together in teams on original research projects.

“We are honored to be supported by the Siemens Foundation, whose programs are inspiring students nationally.  The scholarships that the Foundation provides are critical in making our program accessible to all students, regardless of their financial background,” said Mathworks director Dr. Max Warshauer.

Jeniffer Harper-Taylor, president of the Siemens Foundation, commented, “We’re pleased to support a program that works as effectively as Mathworks, where more than 80 percent of the Honors Summer Math Camp alumni have subsequently majored in math, science or engineering in college.”
