The patent, titled “Method and Apparatus for Client-Serve Communications Using a Limited Capability Client Over a Low-Speed Communication Network” describes a simple way for users to browse websites on their PDA’s or cell phones. The defendants named in the complaint are accused of using the technology for their websites. In the complaint, filed March 29, 2010 Parallel Networks claims that the defendants “have had at least constructive notice of the ‘111 patent” and they believe the corporations infringement is “willful”. According to an independent report on patent ‘111 by Patent Calls, cell phone manufacturers could also be infringing the patent technology since cell phones and PDAs are likely to use the elements of the claims of the ‘111 patent. According to an article published by the Dallas Business Journal Parallel Networks started in the 1990’s and was previously under the name of InfoSpinner and provided software for websites to move at fast speeds. Patent Calls could not find a website for Parallel Networks. All parties in the case were contacted for comment. TIME had no comment, the rest didn’t respond by press time. Parallel Networks is asking for damages as well as enhanced damages.
