Listing your job descriptions in your CV is never an easy task. The best method for doing this is to keep in mind what your career objective is and to prioritise your experience in relation to your professional goals. Get yourself a sheet of paper and list all your roles and responsibilities. Actual phrasing is not important in this step, just record everything you did or do in your current and previous jobs.

You need to consider some things in creating job descriptions. You need to be ruthless, so go over your list and highlight the three most important responsibilities for each job. Consider how well those things relate to your career objective. If there are others on your list that supports your career objective more effectively, apply them instead. Use action or powerful words like developed, managed, communicated, and the like, to begin each description. Ensure that the statements you listed first quantify what you have achieved. It is a good idea to list sales figures, budget, or time line achievements and customer acquisition rates or anything that helps place your responsibilities in the context of the industry you work in.

Make sure that these statements are aligned with your career objective. For example should you want a job in project management, listing that you have managed a team of twenty people will effectively showcase your qualifications. Make a point of quantifying your job description statements. However, you don’t need to quantify every single one, just those that are most important and goal driven.

Same rules apply with achievements and qualifications and keep in mind which ones are most related to your career objective and list them first. Seeking for a job in customer service would mean your communication skills go before computer skills, even though both are important. As a double check, put yourself in the position of your potential employer. Check each job description and see that you have related it to the requirements of the job you are seeking. This way you let your prospective employer know that you have the skills required for the job, which is sure to get your foot in the door for the interview.

Keep in mind that your CV is your sales pitch, demonstrating your qualifications and experience to your potential employer. Seize the opportunity to put your best foot forward and you will reap the rewards.
