Windshield, Auto Glass Repair: Don't Ignore the Chips and Bugs

Glass Doctor reminds drivers to repair windshield chips to save time and money

April 15, 2010 - PRLog -- That’s not a bug on your windshield.  It’s a chip that needs to be repaired before it cracks.

Any size chip in a windshield can be dangerous.  The windshield is one of the most important parts of a vehicle because it helps support the vehicle’s roof structure. The windshield also keeps debris from hitting the driver or the occupants.

A chip needs to be fixed as soon as possible.  If a chip grows into a large crack it can cause more damage to the windshield.  The good news is that most of the time a chip won’t result in an entire windshield replacement.

Getting a chip repaired is:

•Convenient - Glass technicians can repair a windshield within an hour.

•Inexpensive - Most insurance companies will reimburse the $40-50 repair charge.

•Safe - Repairing your windshield helps keep the original factory equipment intact.

•Environmentally friendly - When a windshield is replaced, the old windshield ends up
going in a landfill, where it will stay forever.

Unfortunately, depending on the size and location of the chip, a windshield might have to be replaced.  If the chip is bigger than a quarter, in the line of vision, or at the edges of the windshield a glass technician will recommend a windshield replacement.  If this is the case, make sure technician is certified by the National Glass Association (NGA) like the technicians at your local Glass Doctor®.  NGA certified technicians are educated to the highest industry standards and practices.  Glass Doctor shops also follow Auto Glass Replacement Safety Standards (AGRSS) Council guidelines, the only nationally recognized standards for safe windshield replacement.

A windshield chips need to be repaired as soon as possible; don’t let them bug you, take them to Glass Doctor.
