By: Donetta Campbell Fresh off the success of their internet smash Dock Ellis & The LSD No-No – which won a Juror’s Prize at Sundance and was nominated for two Webby awards – No Mas and Blagden were the clear choice for Hunting Lane’s Jamie Patricof when it came time to illustrate Ice Cube’s recollections of how he and N.W.A. took the Raiders brand to the streets, and then the world, in a dynamic and completely original way. No Mas founder Chris Isenberg says, “Before we released Dock Ellis last November, I gave Jamie a sneak preview of it. He loved the style and thought it would be the perfect way to bring some of Ice Cube’s personal stories to life.” “I appreciate the connection Mr. Cube is making through film, music, and sport,” adds James Blagden. “Along with his young N.W.A. comrades, Cube broke into the mainstream with a pretty radical platform. The relationship they shared with the city of Los Angeles and the Raiders franchise was an interesting one, at one of the more turbulent times in recent American history. I'm happy to have had the opportunity to be a part of the story being remembered.” Jamie Patricof says, “After I saw the Dock Ellis short, I knew this was the perfect format to fill in the gaps in our film. James Bladgen's work has a rare combination of art and style that feels raw but holds a strong cinematic quality. It was the perfect complement to N.W.A. and the Raiders.” Watch a part of the animation and Ice Cube discussing the documentary here: http://www.youtube.com/ ESPN AIR DATES: Tuesday, May 11 @ 8PM – ESPN Tuesday, May 11 @ 11PM – ESPN 2 Thursday, May 13 @ 2AM – ESPN Classic Saturday, May 15 @ 4PM – ESPN Sunday, May 16 @ 6PM – ESPN 2 About No Mas No Mas makes apparel, art and media dedicated to “the thrill of victory and the ecstasy of defeat.” Founded in 2004 by childhood sports freak and former magazine journalist Chris Isenberg, No Mas is known for exploring sport’s secret histories through its products as well as original content.
